Historic Buildings on The Square

Nicknamed “Little Austin”, Denton has no shortage of unique quirks specific to the city and it's inhabitants. As the community continued to develop and expand, it’s never been more important to preserve the integrity of the buildings, shops, and restaurants that make up historic Denton Square. Dedicated to maintaining these celebrated sites and storefronts, Scott Brown is a forerunner in the progress that has, and will continue, to seamlessly blend past and future.

The desire to restore these pillars of the Denton community to their prime began with a number of renovations, including the Scripture Building, the Texas Building, and the building now known as Andy’s Bar.

Scripture Building

When Scott purchased the Scripture Building, it was covered in a coat of yellow paint. To restore the structure to its original state, Scott was adamant about scraping the paint to reveal the stunning brick beneath instead of pressure washing or repainting the exterior, which could have compromised the integrity of the building. Now, Dix Coney Island is housed in this space, serving up delicious meals and great conversation, while the second floor plays host to a number of apartment suites.

Texas Building

The Texas Building was vastly different from the striking structure that now occupies the northeast corner of Denton Square. Before it’s restoration, this building had an exterior covering that was an eyesore to The Square and was filled with asbestos that presented a danger to residents, tenants, and citizens of Denton. With help from Scott Brown, the building was restored to its original redbrick with expansive windows that now showcase Barley & Board. The building now catches the eyes of Denton visitors and has become a favorite for families looking for a scenic spot to dine.

Andy's Bar

Before Andy’s Bar was the chic entertainment venue we know today, the basement was actually incomplete and unusable, as it was completely filled with water. Scott was quick to drain, clean, and finish the basement before leasing the building to Andy, excited to see the improved venue come to life. Now boasting a custom mural reflective of Denton’s creativity, this building houses some of Denton’s favorite haunts, including Paschall’s and Andy’s Bar.
